The nbn speed tier figures are not measures of the actual in-premise speeds customers will experience, which may be slower. Your choice of modem/router, and how you set it up within your premises, could limit you from utilising the maximum speed of your broadband plan. Please check our FAQs below for some handy tips on how to maximise your speeds. Typical evening speeds will be confirmed on our website when we have sufficient speed test data from customers on these new plans.

Ways To Get The Speed Upgrade

Automatic Upgrades for Eligible Plans 

Existing customers on FTTP or HFC who are on the plans above started getting upgraded automatically from the 1st of October. We’ll let you know once your speed increases. If you’d like to be upgraded early, just jump into MyDodo and change to the higher speed plan!

Not Already on an Eligible Plan 

Existing FTTP and HFC customers that aren't currently on nbn500 or Superfast plans can get the faster speeds by upgrading to the higher speed plans in MyDodo.

Higher Speeds Available with Fibre Upgrade

Not on FTTP or HFC? You may be able to upgrade to FTTP with a Fibre Connect Upgrade. Once you've upgraded to FTTP, you can select a high speed plan. Chat to an agent now to find out if you're eligible.

Other Technologies

If your modem connects directly to a phone socket on your wall, you likely have Fibre to the Node (FTTN) or Fibre to the Building (FTTB). If it connects to a white nbn Connection Box, you likely have Fibre to the Curb (FTTC). And if you have an nbn antenna on your roof, you’re a Fixed Wireless customer (FW). Unfortunately, these technologies didn't receive a speed increase from the 1st of October. Some customers on Fibre to the Node or Fibre to the Curb may be eligible or a Fibre Upgrade though. FAQs

If your modem (or router as some call it) is more than 5 years old, it may not be able to deliver the maximum speed of your plan. This limitation usually impacts Wi-Fi, rather than connecting to the modem directly with a cable.

If you have a Dodo Essential (TP Link VX220) or Dodo Family (TP Link VX420 or Kaon DG2144) modem, it’s likely it’ll reach the maximum speed of the plan, provided it’s in a good location and your in-home setup has been optimised (see below). If you have an older Dodo modem, you may want to consider upgrading it. Contact us and we can help you, plus we have a great 50% discount available for eligible Dodo modem customers who upgrade their device. It’s possible for older modems to deliver increased speeds, but it’s unlikely they will deliver the maximum speed available.

If you have a BYO modem, we won’t be able to confirm the modem’s capability. You’ll need to check with the modem manufacturer by contacting them or having a look at their website. Find the manufacturer and model of the modem on the label on the bottom or back of the modem. Wi-Fi 6 or higher is recommended for these higher speed plans.

There are many factors that impact the speed you’ll get from your internet connection. The below are just some of the ways you can improve your speeds.

  • Modem Placement - keep your modem central in your home and try not to hide it in cupboards or behind other appliances. It’s also best to keep it raised where possible and try to avoid locations with other electrical devices like microwaves or baby monitors.
  • Wi-Fi Settings - Are you connecting to the high-speed band on your modem? Most modems operate on two different signal bands. 2.4Ghz which has greater range but offers less speed, and 5Ghz which offers less range but greater speed. Try connecting to the 5Ghz band to get more speed from your Wi-Fi.
  • Interference - If you’re in an area with lots of radio signals, changing channels can help too. This is particularly helpful in apartment buildings or higher density areas.
  • Cable Quality - If you’re connecting to your modem or router with an ethernet cable, make sure it’s a high-quality Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable. This can impact the speed of your connection.

If you’re on FTTN (Fibre to the Node) or FTTC (Fibre to the Curb), you may be eligible for a free fibre upgrade. nbn is busy upgrading many customers on these technologies to full fibre (FTTP). The best way to find out if you’re eligible for a free fibre upgrade is to contact us. While in most cases the upgrade will be completely free, there are exceptions, including if an electrician is required to run power to the location where nbn installs the connection box or if you require a non-standard installation. Please note, once you’ve chosen to upgrade to FTTP, you can’t go back to your old connection.

For now, we aren’t increasing the price of the plans that received a speed increase. If you need to upgrade your plan to receive the higher speeds, you’ll pay a little more.

We are aiming to start increasing speeds from theWhilst the plan speeds for new customers changed on the 1st of October. , speedSpeeds will be upgraded upgrades for existing customers going from 25/5 to 25/10 and 100/20 or 100/40 to 500/50 will happen over a period of a few weeks, . and wWe will let customers know when their speed has been increasedgone up. Given that these speeds are being upgraded for all eligible customers, there may be some delays to complete this across our network.If you’d like to access the higher speeds early, just jump into MyDodo and change your plan to the higher speed version. Speed upgrades for Home Superfast increased for new and existing customers on the 1st of October.

No. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee speeds because there are many things that can impact speed. The speeds listed above are wholesale access speeds, and are what is sold to internet service providers. Your actual speeds will be slower. What we can do is help to optimise your in-home setup where possible so that you can get the most out of your plan.

If you’re on FTTP or HFC and you’re already on the 100Mbps/20Mbps or 250Mbps plan, you won’t have to do anything for the speed of your plan to increase. Depending on how old your modem is, you may want to look at upgrading it to take full advantage of the increased speeds.

If you’re on FTTP or HFC but you’re on a lower speed tier plan, you’ll need to upgrade your plan to get the higher speeds. If you’re on other technologies like FTTN, FTTB or the NBN Fixed Wireless network and you’re eligible for a fibre upgrade, you need to upgrade to fibre to the premises to get access to these high-speed plans. Yes. We will email all customers who are eligible for higher speeds to let them know once their speed has been increased. If there’s something we recommend you do to access these speeds, like upgrade your modem or upgrade your technology, we will let you know that too.
