Concessions, Rebates and Energy Grants

You may be able to get government support to help with your energy costs.

The concessions, rebates and grants available to you depend on:

  • Where you live
  • Whether you have electricity, gas or both
  • The concession card you hold or government eligibility criteria you meet
  • Whether someone in your household has a qualifying medical condition or uses approved life support equipment

Eligible concession cards may include:

  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Health Care Card
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (where applicable)
  • Other state-specific eligibility categories

How to have a concession applied to your account

To receive a  concession you’re eligible for:

  1. Make sure the energy account is in the name of the eligible person
  2. Provide your concession details
  3. Where required, consent to verification through Services Australia or the relevant government agency
  4. Submit any supporting documentation required for medical or life support concessions

Some concessions are automatically applied once your eligibility has been confirmed. Others require you to apply directly through your state or territory government.

If you change products or move to another energy retailer, your concession won't automatically transfer. You'll need to reapply or update your details with your new provider.
