How to upload your personal
website to the Dodo members server?
Your Personal Page is a 10mb storage section on the Dodo members
web server.
Each member of Dodo internet has FTP access to this server. The
Personal Pages uploaded to this server are available to viewed on
any web browser from anywhere on the Internet. Personal content
should be stored on these pages only. Content such as Commercial or
Corporate business sites, Adult sites or content, or any other
content that violates a content based law in Australia should be
not used in your homepage.
1. Creating your Personal
Page
Before you can upload your Personal Page to our server you need
to first create your site. Your personal site will consist of
webpages (common html files) linked together and optionally
containing images, photos, sounds and other multi-media content.
You can use many web page creators on the market to generate your
pages, check your local PC supplier or have a look on the internet
for some HTML authoring software.
2. Activating your Dodo web
space
Now you need to activate your Dodo web space. You can do this by
going to our Dodo account management section and logging in with
your username and password. Once successfully logged in, click on
the Mail/Web button on the left hand side then click on Activate
Web Space on the bottom of the section. Your Dodo Web Space will be
enabled automatically within 30 minutes.
3. Testing your Personal
Page
Before you begin to upload your website you should test all
links, images and pages for errors. Errors can include missing

things such as links pointing to
"file://c//My%20Documents/mypage.html", these will not work once
they are uploaded onto our web server. Also things such as
reference mixed case filenames, all file names should be lowercase
in both the filename itself and the HTML code. For example
uploading "myfamily.GIF" and in your HTML specifying <IMG
SRC="myfamily.gif"> will not work as the web server is case

4. Uploading via an FTP
program
Check with your PC supplier for some FTP software or check your
favorite search engine for some free software. We recommend using
CuteFTP due to it's ease of use and is available as a trial
download from www.download.com. Please Note: The use of CuteFTP is
subject to CuteFTP's terms and conditions, you should thouroughly
read these before downloading or using it. Dodo will be able to
offer limited support for CuteFTP but if problems persist you
should contact your nearest PC vendor for assitance with CuteFTP.
Once you have obtained your FTP client and installed it you need to
enter the following settings:
Host: members.dodo.com.au Port: 21 Username: Password:
Optional settings such as Server Type or Retries should be left
as default and should work correctly. When you are ready to proceed
click on "Connect" or "Connect to Host" and you should see some
messages such as...
Connected to members.dodo.com.au.

to upload each file. Do this for each of the files you want to
upload. Also be sure to upload an "index.html" file which is your
opening page.
5. Testing your Personal
Page
The final step of uploading your Personal Page is testing. You
can do this by opening your web browser and entering in:

Help! My Personal Page doesn't
work!
Here are some preliminary things to check if your Personal Site
doesn't load correctly in your web browser.
- Check to see if you have an index.html file
- Check your HTML code to make sure you have referenced files
without paths
- Check your filenames for incorrect case. Your files should be
all lowercase
- Make sure your HTML code references all files as lowercase and
not mixed case
- Things such as ASP, CGI, PHP, Perl scripts won't work and will
cause problems if you try these
All these tips should assist you in getting your Personal Page
on the internet. Once you have finished and you are happy with the
results give the address out to your friends, family, colleagues,
etc.. Should you have any other problems not covered in this guide
please contact our friendly support staff who will be happy to
assist you. When calling please have details such as what FTP
Client you are using and what Web page creator program you have
used.
