China/ Family travel 2005
I traveled to China for 2 weeks in November, 2005. I stayed in Beijing first, then Changsha(Hunan Province), and then Guangzhou(Guangdong Province). The purpose of this trip was to adopt my youngest brother from Changsha. At the time he was 5.5 years old(now 8).
Accommodations:
Beijing: Guangzhou Hotel
Changsha: Gold Source Hotel
Guangzhou: The Garden Hotel
The experience was amazing! I loved Changsha mainly because it was where my little brother was from, but also because the experience was great. Changsha is home to the worlds largest Walmart and 2nd largest Ferris wheel. The hotel had amazing service and the people were very friendly. I liked that not many foreigners visit Changsha, so the city was truly Chinese(unlike many larger, international cities).
While in Beijing I visited the Great Wall which was one of the most exciting things ever! The hotel was not very nice though and the city was extremely dirty. Beijing is a very political city, but if you explore the outskirts(great wall, hutongs, etc.) it's nice.
Guangzhou was very different from Beijing and Changsha. The hotel was the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Guangzhou has beautiful weather and is far cleaner than Beijing or Changsha. Everything in Guangzhou was wonderful. I would recommend the hotel and the city both.
