Großbritannien/Blairdrummond (Stirling) 2003
After landing in Glasgow, I took the train towards Stirling, which lasted just under an hour. The landscape I saw on that journey was extraordinary, coming from a big flat city like Berlin, it was all very hill and in a special green colour, which I liked quite a lot, reconfirming by decision to go to Scotland. From Stirling I was picked up for the last part of this journey before I arrived at the castle and was again fascinated by it. I was warmly welcomed and introduced to the household I would be working for the next year. Its name was Tourmaline and was situated in the basement of the castle with direct access to its garden. Because I was to replace another co-worker leaving a week later I was accommodated in a little side cottage, sharing it with another German, who was the leader of the bakery workshop. I was glad that he was German, because at that time I still had major trouble understanding the strong Scottish dialect and also my English speaking skills were not the best yet. The next day I got off, so I used the time to explore the surrounding of the Camphill a little. Already on my first morning, I could hear the animals from the nearby park. The place was a total opposite to the busy city life I was used to; there was just so much nature around. In the afternoon, I went for a walk with two other co-workers, who very pretty new as well and had their day off. A lovely walk path took us along a river to the village of Doune. This was also my first opportunity to wear the new kilt that I got as a leaving present from a friend, and surprisingly the co-workers joining me, did so as well. The walk took us along small paths and though a field, until we reached a spot, where Doune castle was visible on the other side of the river on a high rock. In the evening, we went up to the tower of the Camphill, took some wine along and enjoyed the sunset, while I started to get used to this new place.
