New York City Travel Guide
Introduction
New York City is the United States' largest and most ethnically diverse city with a population of about 8.2 million people. It is known as a cultural, financial and political center both nationally and worldwide. Located on an island just across from New York state on the East Coast, it is made up of five very distinct neighborhoods or boroughs including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island.
New York was the nation's main entry point for immigrants during the early 1900's where the Statue of Liberty greeted everyone with the freedom of opportunity for a new life. The diversity of experiences these immigrants brought allowed New York to flourish and become the great cultural center that it is today.
