The idea of our closed beta period is to be able to test the website with a limited number of users that are aware of the fact that there may be potential technical problems.

And there have really been a couple of technical issues that we have mostly solved already. However - yesterday I wanted to update my profile, clicked on “edit profile”, figured that the site is slow, went to get a cup of coffee and when I came back the site was still loading.

Our developer team came up with a set of solutions to the problem yesterday and solutions include extensive data caching and some more complex architectural modifications, which we will realise in the next days and weeks.

So please be patient! We are aware of the problem and things will improve soon!

Thanks for using dodo.com and for all your helpfull feedback!

We started to introduce ourselves to a couple of Internet, Travel and Web 2.0 Experts. Even though we only sent out some basic information on dodo.com, we already had two blogs write about us. These are:

www.internetszene.com

and

www.deutsche-startups.de

Many thanks for the early coverage!

As we are still in the invitation-only phase, all registered members of dodo.com can now invite their friends and travel mates.

If you are interested in our mascot and logo –the dodo– you can find information about it on the main page under “The Legend of the Dodo”. If you find some new aspects about –the dodo– we are curious to hear them.

We are another step closer to the complete opening of dodo.com. After a lot of work on the website in terms of content, features, and technical problems we start the closed beta launch this week. In this phase we open up the website for a few selected external bloggers and travel experts.

We hope all new users have a lot of fun with dodo.com! We are always open to constructive criticism and recommendations, so please give us a feedback, especially on usability aspects and technical problems. Our “problem box” at the bottom of each window is one possible way of giving us a feedback.

We would also like to thank our team for all the great work in the last few weeks!

If you think you should have received an invitation already, just send us a message and tell us why! http://www.dodo.com/en/imprint.html

We have decided on a slogan! As many of you have mentioned our first idea of a slogan was not specific enough. Thus, we have chosen a slogan that indicates dodo.com’s purpose of being a travel community. Our new slogan is ‘Share your travel experience’. In German this would be ‘Teile deine Reiseerlebnisse’. Even though our slogan is not as short as before, it is clear and does not allow for much latent ambiguity.

Below you find our logo with the new slogan. As always, we are curious about your feedback.

Ulrike joined our team in February of 2008. She has recently finished her Master’s studies in Tourism Business Administration at the University College Birmingham and will be working with us on different marketing aspects. During her high school year in Australia in 2001/2002, she discovered her desire to pursue travel and tourism as a career. She subsequently completed a 2-year apprenticeship as International Tourism Assistant in Dresden. Since then, she had accumulated business experience while traveling by completing as internship in Corsica. Ulrike’s personal travel highlights so far are Australia, Brazil, Norway, Sweden, France and Greece. However, she also sees her homeland, Germany, as a great travel destination.
